Who Are We

The Kackaamin Family Development Centre is a non-profit organization committed to the well-being of Indigenous families and individuals in Port Alberni and surrounding areas. We provide a range of programs and services designed to support healthy child development, strengthen families, and promote community wellness. We are one of only three indigenous family treatment programs in Canada and have been in operation for over 50 years.

Our dedicated team works collaboratively to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where families can thrive. We are committed to the revitalization of Indigenous culture, values, and traditions.

Our Mission

To guide First Nations families through a transformative journey to break cycles of dysfunction and thrive without limits. We provide holistic services through a foundation of culture and connection.

Our Values

We uplift our quʔas values and way of life as the foundation of our work:

Hišukʔiš c’awaak (we are all one) – we embrace our interconnection with all living beings, the natural and spiritual world.

ʔiisaakst’ał (respect) – we honour the inherent value and dignity of all.

Hupiicst’ał (help to empower)– we help one another by uplifting each other and by providing the tools and support for self-advocacy.

Yaʔakst’ał (love) – we cultivate a deep sense of care, empathy and connection.

ʔumakʷałḥ (hope) – We hold on to optimism, resilience, and the belief in positive outcomes, even in challenging circumstances.

Tiičsy’i (wellness) – We prioritize holistic well-being.

Funding

We are primarily funded by Island Health, First Nations Health Authority, Ministry of Children and Family Development, School District #70, and Aboriginal Head Start.
We are seeking funding for other projects which will be posted on our site as they become available.
